Offline AI character chat on Android: setup and privacy

What offline AI character chat means here

An offline AI chat app uses a model on your device to generate responses. In The Whispering Diary, ordinary conversations do not require an internet connection after model setup. A download is still needed first, so offline conversation should not be confused with installation that never uses a network.

Elias is a fictional character, not a person or professional adviser. A small local model can produce inaccurate or inconsistent responses. Use the conversation as entertainment rather than relying on it for factual, professional, or emergency advice.

Prepare the app before chatting without internet

1. Check the official Whispering Diary app page for current Android download access. Store availability is not yet confirmed for every account.
2. Use a connection for initial setup and allow time for the approximately 805 MB Qwen model download from Hugging Face. The app checks the downloaded file before use.
3. After setup completes, try an ordinary conversation. Turn off your connection and try another message to confirm offline operation on your installed version.
4. Consider enabling the optional diary lock if other people use your phone. It uses the device biometric or screen-lock system; the app does not receive your fingerprint or device PIN.

Download size is not the same as a complete storage or memory requirement. If setup does not complete, check your connection and available device storage, then contact support rather than assuming every Android phone has identical compatibility or response speed.

Know what stays local and what uses another service

Conversations, drafts, user-approved memories, preferences, and response flags are stored in app-private storage and excluded from Android automatic cloud backup. Wonderworld Labs does not receive these records or operate a chat server for them.

The initial model download is a separate network activity. Hugging Face and its delivery infrastructure may process technical request details, such as the IP address and requested file. Diary entries are not included in that download request.

Exporting a conversation is another boundary to consider. Android's document picker lets you choose a destination, and that destination may have its own storage or backup practices. Local conversation processing does not make a file exported to a cloud destination local-only.

Manage memories, flags, and deletion deliberately

The app stores user-approved memories alongside conversations. If a response is unsuitable, flagging saves a reason and optional note locally and hides the response. It does not send a report to Wonderworld Labs, so do not use a local flag as a substitute for contacting support.

Settings provides individual deletion and an erase function. Removing the downloaded model preserves conversations; it is not the same action as erasing diary data. Uninstalling removes local app data. If you exported a conversation, manage that exported copy separately at its destination.

These distinctions help you choose between freeing model storage, deleting an individual conversation, and removing diary records. Read the current policy before deciding which action matches your intent.
